Zambri's

Zambri's at the Atrium 820 Yates St

If you're thinking about checking out the new Zambri's, I'll start by recommending you visit at off peak times, unless of course you enjoy the social camaraderie of a big queue. Patty and I arrived at 530pm on a Saturday night to be seated quickly, but by the time we left at 645pm, there were around 30 people waiting. I think Zambri's is a great restaurant but I wouldn't stand in a queue for that long.

The new digs are swanky and nothing like the old restaurant. At the risk of sounding provincial, the ambiance is very "big city." For what it lacks in coziness and intimacy, it feels festive and modern.

The new menu is thematically similar to the former restaurant, but is more expansive and includes a new selection of rather interesting pizzas. Patty had the Val Tellegio Pizza, that was most notable for the soft cooked egg on top - fun! I had the Gnocci with cream, crispy beef and broccoli. A bit of a lactose emergency, but otherwise delicious and the crispy beef was a grand success.

The new wine list is great, with lots of choices by the glass and concise annotations (great for people who aren't experts on Italian wine.)

There's no doubt Zambri's is going to enjoy much success in their beautiful new space.
