Update - November 2009 If you haven't been for awhile you might find Blighty's is worthy of a return trip. The menu has changed considerably since my last visit, with strong Asian and seafood influences penetrating the bistro style menu. I had the oysters cooked with leeks and cream as a first course and halibut with lagoustine and mussels for a main. Both were rich and full flavoured and the seafood was well handled and fresh. Patty had Cowichan chicken wings and thighs as a first course. It was a large portion, but it was darn tasty. Four pieces of chicken, roasted with hoi sin sauce and served with lentils. He had the mackerel special as his main course. Mackerel is a strongly flavoured fish, similar to a sardine in flavour and oil content. The dish was prepared with simplicity and careful execution, that embraced the fishiness without over complicating it. The wine list is completely different from my last trip, with much less emphasis on local wines and more emphasis on ease of navigation, value and menu pairing. Owner Richelle Osborne is front and centre in the dining room. Always friendly and engaged with her customers, she adds a lot to the ambiance and the consistency of service. |
